Just like us adults, kids need water to stay hydrated and healthy throughout the day. Water helps to regulate our body temperature, prevent infections and flush out any nasty toxins, so setting up good water drinking habits for your child is essential. How much water you give your child will depend on their age, the weather, and their activity level. Read our blog for more information about how much water a toddler should drink.

Our assortment of kids' water bottles is perfect for every age and development level, from beginner toddlers to school-aged pros. Our popular Thirsty Kids collection includes a wide variety of bottles in different designs and colors to suit their needs, from stainless steel canteens that are perfect for traveling with and easy-grip bottles for small hands, to bottles with straws or spouts to make drinking water as easy and spill-proof as possible.

You know your child best, so when it comes to choosing a water bottle for your child, make sure to choose one that you think they will find easy to use and in a color or pattern you know they'll love. If you're just starting out and trying to encourage your toddler to drink more, take a look at our six creative ways to get your child to drink water.

Is a stainless steel water bottle good for kids?

Absolutely! Stainless steel is a great material for a kid's water bottle as it is durable and non-toxic. Our stainless steel water bottle from the Thirsty Kids assortment is also well-insulated and can keep drinks cool for up to 10+ hours, making it the ideal bottle to travel with during the day. With a soft silicone spout designed to be delicate and gentle on gums and teeth, plus a hygienic cover to keep the spout clean when closed, it's a water bottle you and your little one can rely on.

Are plastic water bottles safe for kids?

Yes! Most plastic water bottles are safe for kids. At Nuby, all of our kid's water bottles adhere to all safety standards, so you can be confident they're 100% safe for your little ones. While stainless steel bottles are generally more durable and can withstand the clumsy hands of children, plastic bottles are still extremely sturdy. Our plastic water bottles are also top-rack dishwasher safe, making them super easy to clean, and they feature specially engineered hygienic caps and covers to prevent drips and spills.

Is it safe for toddlers to drink tap water?

Though this may vary based on where you live, generally, tap water is safe for your child to drink, and it won't need to be boiled if they are over six months old. It is often recommended over bottled water as its key ingredient, fluoride, is essential for washing any sugars or bacteria away while strengthening teeth. If you're worried about the water quality in your area, you can get it tested and use a water filter if needed.

How much water should my kid drink in a day?

Ideally, depending on the weather and your child's activity level, a 1-3-year-old should drink about 5 cups of water daily. An easy way to remember how much a toddler should drink is to add 8 ounces for each year of their life. For example, a one-year-old should have 8 ounces of water, and a two-year-old should have 16 ounces of water, etc. Of course, if they run around a lot on a hot day, they may need a bit more to stay hydrated. Check out our blog to learn more about how much your toddler should drink daily.
